Openness vs Definition
In Human Design, you’ll sometimes hear that the openness in your design is your greatest potential for wisdom. The truth is, wisdom can live anywhere in your design. The real distinction is:
Wherever we have definition, our awareness will always be colored by our own subjective experience. Through our openness, we have the potential to witness life objectively.
This is a dense, mechanical topic, and it might take some time for the logic of what I’m sharing to fully land in your body… but it is a super valuable awareness to have when looking at a chart!
Where you have definition, you are fixed and consistent. I have a defined Solar Plexus center. My emotional chemistry operates in a specific, reliable way. I can cultivate a deep awareness of my own emotionality, but my understanding of this area of life will always be limited by the fixedness and subjectivity of my personal experience.
Versus…
If you have an open or undefined Solar Plexus center, you are emotionally receptive, profoundly sensitive to the emotions of others in your environment. You have the capacity to experience and sample infinite flavors of emotionality.
Without internal fixedness, you have the potential to gain so much objective wisdom as you witness the nature of emotions on this planet… but only when you have learned to not identify with/attach to the emotions passing through you. And only after you are no longer run by your conditioned tendency to avoid emotional truth and confrontation!
It doesn’t mean that you don’t have wisdom where you’re defined, it’s just a different type of wisdom. My sharing about emotions is always going to be influenced by my own subjective experience, whereas the open emotional center can share in a more flexible/universal way.
The defined spleen can teach from the specificity of its own relationship to health, well-being, instinct and intuition while the open spleen may be able to speak more broadly on these topics, with a greater sensitivity to how others experience this realm of life.
The defined ego may cultivate excellent self-awareness and mastery regarding its own relationship to willpower, self-worth and the material world. The open ego can objectively witness humanity’s diverse ways of navigating the material plane, and eventually posses great wisdom regarding the nature of the ego, and what is truly valuable.
Neither type of wisdom is better or worse.. it’s just different! With my defined head and ajna, I am not designed to be openminded and trying to be so distorts my genius. With an open head and ajna, your brilliance comes from your mental flexibility. Both types of minds are equally valuable and needed!
And like anything in Human Design, when you stop trying to be something you’re not and surrender to what you are, you get to experience the true potency and pleasure of your uniqueness.
