“New Year” Human Design Weather Report

Are you feeling stressed about all the pressure to commit to and follow through with New Year's resolutions?

Perhaps it will bring you comfort and freedom to learn about this cultural phenomenon through the lens of Human Design....

According to the Human Design system, January 1 isn’t actually the “new year”. It marks the end of a Gregorian calendar year, but it is not the end of a true solar cycle.

A new yearlong human experiential cycle will begin when the sun enters into gate 41, which will happen January 22 this year.

This matters because...

The transits are essentially the cosmic weather, and they have a huge impact on us all. As 2024 transitions into 2025, the sun will have just entered into Gate 38, Opposition (The Fighter). The earth will be Gate 39, Obstruction (Provocation).

This is a configuration that fuels friction and tension. It is a pressure that provokes and empowers reflection, pondering whether or not we felt a sense of purpose and spirit in the year that is still weeks away from its end. However, this is not an energy that supports completion and new beginnings.

Under the influence of these transits, you may feel an amplified pressure to confront challenges, take risks, go up against the odds and fight for your individuality in order to know that life has meaning. You might feel a restlessness to experience more passion, spirit and abundance in your life.

For some this may feel motivating and energizing, for others this may feel stressful and uncomfortable.

Regardless, the key is to stay rooted in Strategy & Authority, and refrain from making decisions or taking action based on these transient external pressures.

To add another fun dimension to the current state of the cosmos, this year the 35-36 Channel of Transitoriness (Jack of All Trades) has been activated in the transits since 12/17, and it’s not going away until 1/28.

This is an emotional manifesting channel that says “I feel like a change”. We might experience this as an emotionally charged hunger for new experiences with new people. We might feel insecure about our inexperience, and driven to try new things and initiate wild new adventures. This can be quite sexual in nature, sometimes nicknamed the “been there done that channel” 😉

It’s easy to get swept up in the energy of the transits, and recklessly dive into new and exciting experiences, or believe you need to commit to lofty goals for the new year.

The result can be futile struggle or unnecessary emotional crisis and instability.

When you are connected to your own inner compass, you can observe these pressures and urges with awareness, without falsely identifying with them and making decisions based on them.

You don’t need to declare you will quadruple your income and lose 10 pounds in the new year unless this actually feels correct for you. You don’t need to go out and party and have crazy experiences unless you truly desire this. You get to be you, and feel secure in who you are and how you choose to navigate these heightened energies.

I don’t say any of this to squash your motivation or dampen your excitement. I share all of this with the intention of providing comfort and permission for those who may have already intuitively sensed that January 1 is a strange date to deem the beginning of a new cycle.

And as always, take it or leave it!

In my own experiment, this understanding has helped to lift a weight that wasn’t true for me to carry. I’ve found greater peace by treating “muggle New Years” as a time for reflection, and moving towards intention setting in late January. .

However, I am not you. If it feels true for you to set New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of January, you are more than welcome to! Maybe the resolutions you set at this time will be the best thing you could have done for yourself.

Remember- it’s all an experiment.

Xo,

Bri
