How to Convince Your Mind to be Nicer to You
Recently, I have been working to convince my mind that I don’t have to choose between loving myself as I am + accepting where I’m at and working towards growth and greater alignment.
Here’s the challenge: My mind is terrified that if it is kind and gentle towards me instead of punishing me for all my real and perceived mistakes and shortcomings, I will become complacent.
I am learning to simply feel the pure embodied truth of my yearning for expansion, without also beating myself up about the ways in which I’m “not accessing my full potential”. The sensation alone is enough to fuel my movement in life and motivate me towards change.
I can witness, without judgment, my longing to experience even more of what my vehicle is capable of. I can be present with my desire to become a more effective channel for what wants to be created through me, while also celebrating myself exactly as I am in this moment.
I can open to receive the sensation of excitement about what’s coming, instead of blocking it with worry and doubt.
All the while, I can choose to focus on gratitude. I can celebrate all of the magic and abundance that is already here. I am working to show my mind that doing so actually supports and fuels my continued transformation, it does not lead to stagnation.
A lot of my clients are like me, in the sense that you have big desires, and you are no stranger to personal development work. As such, this is a spot that I see many of my clients wrestle as well with to various degrees: Holding the desire for more and becoming aware of what’s in the way, all the while loving and accepting yourself fully in each moment.
It can be massively empowering and existentially comforting to learn about your design. There can be a rush of confidence and a high that you experience as you see your brilliance more clearly, realize what you’re capable of and fantasize about what it will look and feel like to embody your design more fully.
And then naturally, there can also be feelings of grief and disappointment about the gap between where you are now and what you are expanding into. There might also be anger, frustration and bitterness directed towards all the external forces that have been oppressive to your true nature.
Can you be present with the sensations themselves, without distracting yourself by inventing meaning?
Can you trust in your body’s intelligence, and allow it to go through its cleansing process without trying to interfere?
You’re doing great. You’ve got this!
